The Rotaract Club of North Bay - Nipissing
In March 2009 our club was chartered, although we were sponsored by the Rotary Club of North Bay – Nipissing we work closely with both Rotary Clubs in town. As a Rotary community we are able to work together, gain mentorship opportunities and give back to our community.
Since inception we have supported a number of local organizations through our fundraising events, and our individual volunteering efforts. We have raised and donated more than $130,000 to our community with our largest event, Up the Creek Without a PADDLE, raising over $96,000 to date. We run an annual Poutine, Pints and Plaid event, which has supported the Alzhimer's Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Bay and District and the Green Light Laser Project at the North Bay Regional Hospital Foundation. We host an annual book sale which has supported organizations such as Packsac Smiles, L.I.P.I North Bay, and the North Bay Literacy Council. Our big volunteer event is Day of Giving; we partner with Rotarians and go into the community to help where needed. In the past we have hosted annual galas, raising money for organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society and L’Arche North Bay. We have members that participate in Relay 4 Life, volunteer with the Capital Centre and other community events.
As of August 2016, we were the first Rotaract Club in District 7010 to sign an International Twin Club agreement. The Rotaract Club of North Bay - Nipissing is now a Twin Club with the Rotaract Club of Alexandria Marine Star in Egypt. We will be working on international projects, such as #CleanYourCity, #HistoryOfOurCity and a special project where we will collect school supplies for students in Egypt.
